Job Summary

Serves as the shop coordinator in safety by administering safety procedures and conducting regular inspections that effectively control accidents and health exposures in the Shop / Field and ensures compliance with OSHA and NFPA standards. Conducts new hire safety orientation, maintains all relevant safety and training related documentation. Will be required to drive company and/or personal vehicle to conduct company business. Responsible for completing the appropriate training / education required to continue progressing in Pioneer.

Duties & Responsibilities

Compliance

  • Conducts and documents weekly and monthly safety inspections of the Shop Floor to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations using the Shop Safety Inspection Checklist. (shop locations and/or field job sites as needed.)
    • Addresses any non-compliance issues in a timely manner.
  • Communicates and enforces all OSHA and Pioneer safety specific rules, regulations and standards including guidance on handling OSHA compliance and inspections.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of company-wide safety programs such as lockout/tagout, machine guarding, fire protection/ drills, and other OSHA safety and NFPA compliance programs.
  • Advises the company regarding safety protocols and procedures to ensure the safety of all employees, as well as regulatory compliance as mandated by local, state, and federal agencies, including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EAP).
  • Responds to emergency situations involving hazardous materials, fire, and smoke incidents, or unknow hazards; prepares reports of findings and submits recommendations.
  • Facilitates training as needed with the Drug Free Workplace Program.
  • Maintains/updates Emergency Response Plan.

Employee Relations

  • Assists in administering the Drug Free Workplace Program for the Shop.
  • Works together with Human Resources on Workers Comp issues and return to work accommodations, as needed.

Employee Safety

  • Administers all company and government mandated safety programs and training e.g., First Aid, CPR, BBP etc. and maintains required documentation.
  • Completes a Job Hazard Analysis form to proactively reduce and hopefully eliminate all risks or hazards related to the project and reviews form with Shop Team Leads prior to start of potentially hazardous work.
  • Acts as the shop’s primary first responder, coordinates any required medical treatment for injured or ill employees, conducts post-accident investigation and completes all required paperwork.

Employee Training

  • Conducts new hire safety orientation and submits all relevant documentation in conjunction with the Safety Manager as requested.
  • Administers and trains all employees on Pioneer’s Emergency Evacuation Plan, Tow Motors, Lock Out / Tag Out, Fall Protection and Hand & Power Tools and other training as needed.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • High School diploma required. Associate degree in Safety Engineering, Construction Management or related field preferred.
  • Bilingual; Spanish preferred; willing to attend classes to learn Spanish.
  • Two years construction or manufacturing experience required; glazing and/or glass industry preferred.
  • Pioneer will support and pay for employee to obtain & maintain the following safety cards /certificates: CPR / AED / First Aid / Bloodborne Pathogens Instructor, OSHA General Industry Outreach Trainer 501 & 511 or OSHA Construction 510 and 500, OSHA LOTO 7115, OSHA 3115 Fall Protection Systems, and 40 – Hour HAZWOPER
  • Experienced in using and training procedures for hand tools and operating machines.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • A valid driver’s license and demonstrates safe driving practices.
